Simple. Tattoo. Aftercare!
Taking care of your new tattoo is just as important as getting it. Whether you chose a bold Traditional design or a detailed Illustrative piece, proper aftercare will keep it looking sharp—especially in South Carolina’s heat and humidity.
Traditional Aftercare
1. Keep It Clean* – Remove the bandage after a few hours. Wash your tattoo gently with mild soap and lukewarm water, then pat it dry with a clean towel. Depending on the size and detail of your tattoo, wash it 2–3 times a day to keep it fresh.
2. Moisturize Lightly* – Use a thin layer of fragrance-free lotion or your artist’s recommended ointment to prevent dryness.
3. Be Smart in the Sun* – Fresh tattoos are sensitive, so keep yours covered while it heals. Once it’s healed, sunscreen will help protect it. No need to stay inside—just take care of your ink.
4. No Swimming* – Avoid pools, lakes, and the ocean for at least two weeks to prevent infection.
5. Hands Off* – It will itch and peel, but don’t scratch or pick at it. Let it heal naturally.
Healing with Second Skin
1. Leave it On* – Keep the bandage on for 2–5 days, depending on the size and detail of your tattoo. If it starts leaking or peeling up sooner, remove it.
2. Peel Off Gently* – To remove, do it under warm running water. Slowly peel it back—don’t rip it off like a bandage.
3. Wash Your Tattoo* – Once the second skin is off, wash your tattoo with mild soap and lukewarm water. Continue washing it 2–3 times a day to keep it clean.
4. Moisturize Lightly* – After washing, apply a thin layer of fragrance-free lotion or your artist’s recommended ointment.
5. Be Smart in the Sun* – Just like with traditional healing, keep your tattoo covered while it’s fresh, and once healed, protect it with sunscreen.
6. Skip the Soaking* – No pools, lakes, or oceans for at least two weeks. Showers are fine, but don’t let the water beat down on your tattoo.
* No matter which method you use, good aftercare ensures your tattoo heals clean, crisp, and built to last.*
